Minimalist packaging has been a strong trend for many years now and focuses on using fewer resources. Whether from a design perspective or with sustainability in mind, there are many ways to incorporate minimalism into your packaging:
Art & Design
The most common use of minimalism in packaging is in design. Minimalist design can be demonstrated in the following ways:
Structure Selection
Your packaging product choice can also demonstrate minimalism. For example, opting for lidding film versus a clamshell shows minimalism from a sustainable perspective, as lidding film uses 25% less packaging than clamshells without compromising barrier protection. Another example could be choosing a stand-up pouch rather than a container with a label. But, again, flexible packaging is a great solution to demonstrate minimalism in your packaging structure.
Downgauging
When possible, you can downgauge your packaging thickness or reduce the number of layers that make up your packaging material. This option can work well and reduce a lot of waste if your packaging is overengineered. However, it’s crucial to confirm that all of your barrier requirements are met when making these changes.
