Customer Spotlight: Barefoot Venus

Aug. 3, 2021
Barefoot Venus

We're starting a new series: customer spotlights! We want to highlight a customer each month and share a little more about their company, our partnership with them, and any exciting projects they’re currently working on.

Our first spotlight is on Barefoot Venus, a local bath and body brand based in Kelowna, British Columbia. Barefoot Venus has been a valued client for over 12 years, and we are so flattered that they trust us with their beautifully designed labels; they’re a team favourite at Associated!

1) Tell me a little about Barefoot Venus and what you stand for.

Barefoot Venus

Our founders are Myra, Cindy, and Lisa (pictured), three sisters who had a collective dream of working together. Barefoot Venus began with the Mustard Bath, an old family recipe that our founders’ mother brought from Ireland. From there, we added more products and grew to our current range of bath and body products, like lotions, bubble baths, oils, and bath salts.

We focus on people, planet, product. For people, we give back to communities wherever we can, and we take care of our team with wellness days and bonding trips. When it comes to planet, we try to be eco-conscious when creating new products, and our packaging is dual-purpose and designed to be reused, not just thrown away when the product is finished. Lastly, we use only natural ingredients for our products, and everything is consciously crafted.

The best summary of who Barefoot Venus is and what we stand for is our manifesto on our website.

2) What are you most proud of as a company?

Barefoot Venus lotionsWe're proud of our feature in the Fall 2020 Jilly Box, a Canadian subscription box, especially as it was with our hero product, the Mustard Bath. We also have another feature in Ipsy later this year, which is super exciting for our team.

Another aspect of Barefoot Venus that we’re proud of is our initiatives for giving back to our community. For example, we sponsor a “Mom’s Night Out” for a local grassroots autism initiative every year, which is funded by sales from our seasonal Ginger Snap collection. This night offers caregivers an evening out with food, drinks, and lots of fun. Last year, when the pandemic hit, we created two uniquely labeled 8oz hand sanitizers with 100% of the proceeds going to Black Lives Matter.

3) How would you describe your relationship with ALP?Barefoot Venus

I would say it’s fabulous! Our labels are complicated, and it’s been so nice to work with someone who lets us push the boundaries. It enables us to create intricate designs, which makes us unique. We love it when our artistic vision can come to life on our packaging. We work with sales and the prepress department, who can guide us to ensure there are no issues with our packaging. We make a good team!

4) What are you currently working on, and what are you excited about in the next few years?

We're currently redoing the website, which is really exciting – upping our game there! We also have two new fragrances launching this year, Apricot Brandy and Wild Bloom, so that’s really exciting as it’s always fun to create new artwork.
